Zwartkops 24 July 2010
PRE-RACE
Report by Jan Volschenk
We a arrived at the track with only the Formula M. Corrie,s Formula GTI had a sticking steering rack (after being used as a tow bar by marshalls at Midvaal) and workload prevented him from taking part. He also had problems with oil leaks. Not on the car, on a transformer. Louis had his wheel enlighnment problem solved, parked in a pit without pillars and looked all set for the race, but a slipping clutch put an end to all. His luck will change. JP arrived with a clean GTI, a hotrod and a girlfriend, this is as equiped as one can be! Matthys came with his ever clean and well prepared car, but suffered the frustrating problem of pumped up lifters. These oilpumps either pump to little or to much oil. Lushen again whent through the trouble of traveling all the way from Durban (private car still not fixed) just to find (or not find) a loose wire put an end to his efforts. Chris, doing the strange thing of preparing his car at home, walked around with a big grin, a cup of coffee and picking fights with the girls.Oliver's car stood out again, what a nice looking car. 288 cam and flying. It was nice to see Brandon back, they were about to strip their motor and replace two holed pistons when they learned about this irretating problem of lifters pumping up. We stopped them just in time.Elna and Jason being right on pace as well.
ON TRACK 1ST HEAT
In true Formula GTI style it was "under one blanket" racing. Lushen missed the start, but was back for the second heat. Louis avoided damage and withdrew. Oliver drove a flawless race and proved that there is some hope for the 2E motor. Race times were slower than Qualifying but the group was as bunched together as in Qualifying. JP finished second pressurising Oliver most of the race. They swopped lead twice, but Oliver was having none of this and took the flag. JP had his mirrors full of Chris vermaaks NO 1 and at times defended with all his might.Matthys had a brilliant starting lap and promoted himself to fourth and challanged the lead pack, something happened out of sight and then a tussle started with Brandon. Brandon kept up, but one could see that he missed out on some seat time and had his hands full to keep Jason behind. Elna, even though suffering from a down on power engine, was consistant and again running in the pack showing that her previous performance was not just a flash in the pan.
Comment by the Chairman:
It can only get so much better if JP has full power and no misfire on his car, Elna is back to full engine power, and Corrie joins all the other youngsters to teach them all a thing or two. Looking forward to Phakisa 28 Aug 2010.
